- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1 teaspoon ground cloves
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup unsweetened applesauce
- 5 cups vegetable oil
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup chopped nuts or raisins (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease or line a 9×5-inch loaf pan.
- In a large bowl, whisk together flour, brown sugar, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves.
- In another bowl, whisk eggs, applesauce, oil, and vanilla until smooth.
- Combine wet and dry ingredients, stirring until just combined. Do not overmix.
- Fold in nuts or raisins if using.
- Pour into the prepared loaf pan and smooth the top.
- Bake for 50–60 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Cool in pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
- Slice and enjoy!

- This loaf can be stored at room temperature for up to 3 days.
- Feel free to substitute the nuts or raisins with your favorite add-ins.
